Can I Flat Iron My Curly or Wavy Human Hair

Updated: Aug 15, 2019

We are often asked by our customers whether our curly or wavy textures can be flat ironed. The answer is yes! However, we do not recommend using a flat iron or heat on really tight curl or wave textures with these textures, it is best to have a second wig or hair system with a straight or loose hair texture on hand rather than going through the task of flat ironing out all the curls.

Most curly and wavy human hair textures can be flat ironed straight. As with all human hair, it is important to note that the texture will change temporarily because you are applying heat and styling products. The important thing to remember about flat irons and other electric hair tools is the hair is prone to damage just like naturally growing hair. You don’t want to use electric tools that are too hot! We strongly recommend using a heat protector whenever heat is applied to the hair. You basically don’t want to “fry” the hair into a limp state.

The general rule of thumb is to avoid excessive heat on Remy hair that has gone through chemical processing already. Extra curly or wavy hair typically needs more constant heat to straighten and this heat can contribute to dryness and breakage. This is why it’s just better to have a backup with straight hair to alternate with. With the alternate use, both wigs will last longer. With most human hair, as long as you have not caused any heat damage to the hair, it will revert back to the curly or wavy state once moisture hits it (humidity/washing etc.).
