Quick Steps to Shampoo and Condition Your Human Hair Lace Wigs and Wigs

You’ve purchased a human hair lace wig or another type of human hair wigs, worn it for a while and now it’s time to shampoo and condition it. You can use the sink, basin or wig stand to wash your wig. Here are a few quick and easy tips to wash and condition your human hair wig.

  1. Use a wig brush for straight hair and a wide tooth comb for curly or wavy hair textures.

  2. Gently detangle the hair. Always comb the ends of the hair up towards the roots. Note: If you use glue or tape, remove all glue and adhesives from the wig before you put the wig in water.

  3. Fill your sink or basin with warm water. Mix in one to two squeezes of shampoo in the water.

  4. Turn the wig inside out to wash the cap first.

  5. Lay the wig in the warm soapy water for a few minutes.

  6. Remove from the water, flip the cap back to the outside.

  7. Grab the wig at the crown, then gently rub the hair from top to bottom with your fingers. (Drizzle some shampoo onto the hair, if needed.)

  8. Rinse with warm water until the water runs clear and there is no more shampoo in the hair.

  9. Squeeze as much water as possible from the hair with downward strokes. Do not twist or wring.

  10. Drizzle some conditioner onto the hair, then work it gently into the hair from top to bottom with your fingers. Wait two minutes before rinsing out the conditioner to let the oils penetrate the hair and hydrate it. After two minutes, rinse with warm water until the water runs clear and there is no conditioner in the hair.

  11. Lay the wig on a towel, then gently pat dry with a towel. Avoid twisting or wringing.

  12. Brush or comb the wet hair from the bottom to top using downward strokes one section at a time. (A wig head would be useful in this process.) Note: Note comb the hair whether wet or dry at the top or middle. Always comb from the bottom up.

  13. Add a cream oil moisturizer to the hair to prevent dryness from top to bottom. The moisturizer keeps the hair looking healthy.

  14. Style or let your wig air dry. If you use flatirons or curling wands, make sure you use a heat protection product to avoid damaging the hair.
