Heard This Before… What’s Up with Remy, Virgin Remy, Non-Remy and Human Hair

It seems we are always asked about the hair type and about what’s real and what’s not real. Most of you have heard terms like Remy, Virgin Remy, Non-Remy, and Human Hair but, what does it mean? You also probably have heard Virgin hair is Remy hair, but not all remy hair is virgin.

Remy Hair

Remy hair refers to the characteristics of the hair and how the hair is collected. Remy hair is considered the finest quality of human hair since the cuticles are kept intact unlike most other non-remy hair. Since the cuticles are not stripped and remain aligned in one direction, it reduces the chances of the hair from matting, tangling and shedding problems. Remy hair is usually gathered from different donors and may undergo some processing which is the main difference between Remy and Virgin Remy hair. Remy hair is not virgin remy hair even though they both go through similar collection processes.

Virgin Remy

Virgin Remy hair is raw, chemically unprocessed human hair. Virgin Remy hair is usually cut or shaved from the scalp from a single donor, all hair cuticles are kept intact and face the same direction from root to tip. Virgin Remy is the highest quality hair and healthiest of all hair. Since Virgin Remy hair has not been altered by dyes, colored, permed, bleach, harsh washes or chemically processed, this hair is in its purest form. In fact, Virgin Remy hair may never have been exposed to heated styling tools, or even a blow dryer.

Virgin Remy hair has a tendency to be stronger and last longer than just Remy hair, human hair or non-remy hair. Virgin hair is raw, unprocessed human hair in its purest form. Virgin Remy hair starts out straight, but can be altered to create various textures like straight, wavy or curly. Virgin Remy comes in a natural color and it can be dyed to the hair color of choice. In a nutshell, all Virgin hair is Remy, but not all Remy hair is Virgin hair.

Non-Remy

You know what Remy and Virgin Remy hair is, so it will be easier for you to identify non-remy. Non-remy hair may have the cuticle intact, but the hair will flow in different directions. Non-remy hair is collected differently from Remy or Virgin Remy hair. Non-remy hair is gathered from multiple sources and sometimes includes hair obtained from hair brushes or even floor scraps. The problem with this hair is, when you strip the cuticles, you’re going to get tangling and matting. It also tends to shed and is not as smooth or soft as remy hair.

Human Hair

Human hair is hair that is 100% human. It has not been mixed with any kind of synthetic fibers or heat resistant fibers. Even though human hair is 100% human hair, it is totally unlike Remy hair and definitely not like Virgin Remy human hair. Human hair is very similar to non-remy hair. The cuticle has been chemically stripped. This creates problems with the hair. With stripped cuticles, you’re going to get brittleness, tangling, matting, and dryness. The majority of human hair sold today is non-Remy hair.
